Couples counselling in Colchester
I find the most common relationship issues are communication and attachment issues. Couples often end up tip toeing around each other or end up distracted by everyday life and forget to communicate effectively. Hints are used instead, which aren’t picked up. Depression can often set in for one or both partners.
I use communication exercises designed to encourage active listening, rather than listening in order to reply.
I encourage awareness of each others attachment style, which often explains why two people who love each other can’t just make it “work”. Sometimes it can feel like the more you try to make it work, the more you push your partner away.
Relationship & Marriage Counselling
Couples find that after counselling, they understand themselves and their partner better. Communication is greatly improved with partners being able to say what they need to say. They will feel more secure in their relationships, with partners providing a secure base. No more deactivating strategies or acting out behaviour.
Most couples will see an improvement in their relationship after six sessions. Making lasting changes can often take longer. I find that the couples who work hard in therapy get the results they deserve.
