Counselling and therapy for anxiety

Anxiety can affect your whole life. It may start off with general worries about big things and then progress to worries about everything. It might have been a particular incident that has knocked your confidence and it has snowballed from there. You may be very stressed and have tried to stay strong too long.

You may start to feel some tightness in the chest, fear and panic or general uneasiness. Your breathing may be affected, your mouth may be dry. Sickness and nausea or even heart palpitations are all symptoms of anxiety.

When anxiety gets out of control, you may find you are suffering from OCD or panic attacks. Many people who suffer from anxiety end up feeling depressed as well.

Feel more confident

I find CBT very helpful with anxiety. I will often look at your past history, which can give clues to where the feelings, unhelpful thinking, unhelpful behaviours have come from. Negative self talk can also be involved and confidence and low self esteem is often present in clients with anxiety.

I will teach you relaxation, breathing and grounding exercises which are often helpful.

After counselling clients tell me they feel more confident and less anxious. They are able to return to their normal hobbies and activities. They don’t cancel or make excuses about going out. They are more relaxed and confident. They have the tools and confidence to manage any further incidences of anxiety.

Most clients see an improvement in their symptoms of general anxiety after six sessions. Clients who have been suffering from anxiety for prolonged periods and those seriously effected by anxiety, will probably need open ended sessions, but should see a gradual improvement.
